Recently I was thinking how if I wanted to get the full story on any topic, I would really have to read the complete Bible, chapter by chapter, each time with that subject in mind because there are so many parallels, relevant backstories, and nuggets of information throughout each of its books.
Although I had known there was no single chapter that covered the entirety of a subject (e.g. gifts of the Spirit, baptism, communion, divorce, etc.), it only just occurred me the extent of knowledge around a topic I continued to receive reading through each book, line by line - being so often surprised and wondering, “when did that line/verse get there??!” The depth of the Word has no bounds!
For precept must be upon precept, precept upon precept, line upon line, line upon line, here a little, there a little (Isaiah 28:10)
It reminds me of secret coding with messages weaved throughout its books and chapters, unveiled only as Him-who-stands-at-the-door hands you the encryption keys for entry. Then suddenly its concepts, revelations, connecting topics, etc. seem to start dancing off the pages. Moreover, by weaving topics throughout its entirety, should some pages ever get damaged or lost, His message would still be delivered.
Modern day coding, encryption, spread-spectrum technology… it all goes back to the designs of the Word, precept upon precept. In the beginning, was the Word...
