Unable to sleep, I decided to watch a romantic comedy film that turned out to be more depressing than funny. When it finally ended just before 3 am (2:51am to be exact), I was overly tired, teary and just emotionally spiraled from there. I was sad and alone - why was there no romantic comedy happening on this side of the screen? With eyes starting to well-up, I whispered, “Father - I’m so alone, my heart hurts.”
Before I had said that last word, my iPad started ringing with a Facetime call from “Maybe: Dad” and simultaneously my apartment filled up with the smell of the ocean mixed with tropical flowers like a bottle of perfume had broken open - not a faint scent. I knew the call wasn’t from my earthly dad, but rather my heavenly Father. There in His presence, I was so overwhelmed by His love that I broke into sobs.
I am so grateful that I serve a living God who’s not too busy to remind me that I’m never alone & He’s always with me.
The next day I did ask my earthly dad if he had called me during the night to confirm the Holy Spirit hadn’t put it on his heart to call me. He said no and didn’t have any call records on his phone from overnight. You may ask why I didn’t just answer that Facetime call… well, I had immediately known who was calling and didn’t need to pick up to talk to Him. His presence filled up the room - I just had to speak.
John 14:15-21 If you love me, keep my commands. And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever— the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you. I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you. Before long, the world will not see me anymore, but you will see me. Because I live, you also will live. On that day you will realize that I am in my Father, and you are in me, and I am in you. Whoever has my commands and keeps them is the one who loves me. The one who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I too will love them and show myself to them.
